Nadan Kozhi Curry or Kerala chicken curry is a very tasty n delicious chicken curry from Kerala. When I am searching for some different chicken recipe I found this here and it's simplicity made me to try this recipe. I did slight modifications in the recipe as per my family taste.

Ingredients
Ingredients
  • For marination
  • Chicken - 1/2 kg
  • Chilli powder - 1 tsp
  • Coriander powder - 1 tsp
  • Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
  • Salt - 1/2 tsp
Dry Roast
  • Fennel seeds - 3/4 tsp
  • Cardamom - 2 or 3 pods
  • Cinnamon stick - 5 to 6 around 2 inches
  • Cloves - few
  • Bay leaf - 1
  • Red chilli - 2
  • Coriander seeds - 1 tbsp
  • Pepper corns - 1/2 tsp
For Gravy
  • Coconut Oil - 3 tsp + 1 tsp
  • Mustard seeds - 3 pinch
  • Dry Red chillies - 3
  • Onion - 1 big chopped finely
  • Ginger garlic paste - 1 tbsp
  • Thick coconut milk - 1 cup
  • Garam masala - 1/2 tsp
  • Curry leaves - 1 spring
  • Salt - as per taste
Instructions
  1. Marinate the chicken with the ingredients mentioned in marination for 40min to 1 hr.
  2. Take the ingredients to dry roast.
  3. Dry roast the ingredients mentioned in dry roast till slightly brown color or till nice aroma rises.
  4. Transfer the content to food processor.
  5. Grind in the food processor to a coarse powder.
  6. In a kadai / pan add the oil. When hot add the mustard seeds. When it splutters add the dry chilli. Fry for a minute.
  7. Add onions and sauté till it becomes soft. Add the ginger garlic paste till the raw smell goes off.
  8. Add the chicken pieces now and add water and allow to cook.
  9. When it is half cooked ( after 10 min app ), add the ground powder, mix it well.
  10. 10. Close n cook the chicken for another 2 min.
  11. 11. Add the coconut milk and adjust the salt.
  12. 12. Cook again till the curry becomes thick.
  13. 13. If it is very thick, add little water. Add the garam masala in the end and cook for another 5 min. Switch off the stove.
  14. 14.Finally in small pan add the 1 tsp coconut oil, fry the curry leaves and mix in the thick curry. It enhances the flavor.
  15. 15. Serve the yummy n tasty Nadan chicken curry / Kerala chicken curry with rice or Roti.
Recipe Notes

Pepper and chillies can be adjusted according to your taste.

Adding the fried curry leaves using coconut oil at the final stage is optional.

While marinating the chicken, you can add the chicken masala powder also. But I have not used here.
